There's a bit of a collection of soda fountain stuff with useful signs in the never-used second dining room, but a bit hidden. Look for it.
They also have several historical and restored to working operation, huge wall units that are musical self playing, with horns, drums, triangles, and other instruments all built inside that play from a rolling paper with programmed musical songs on it.
This is the best restored, fanciest over 100 year old ice cream shop I have ever been too.
There was a wait for 10 to 30+ minutes, and the service moved at a slow pace, due to what seemed like not enough employees to handle the non-stop constant flow of customers. The staff worked fast and hard non-stop, but just could not keep up with the amount of customers. They can seat parties of all sizes up to 300 people if you wish to rent the entire building for a special occasion. They do not skimp on serving size, and 1 dip is a very large scoop of ice cream, and they put on plenty of toppings as requested.
The intricate detailed metal tile inlay ceilings, hand carved wood work, solid marble counters, marble dispensers, huge mirrors, old time cash registers, and even the light bulbs were of a 100 year old design. This place was meticulously restored as it was 100 years ago. If you're in the area and do not even want ice cream or anything to eat, this place is worth the stop just to see the rich history of items on display and still in use.
Good ice cream, best banana split we've ever heard of.
Great old time ice cream and soda shop. Incredible woodwork. There will be many families with small kids
We did not try the hot food, which they offer all types of hot dog combos, tenderloins, sloppy joe's, and more. We did have the ice cream which was excellent tasting. Prices seem on par for this type of place. The banana split was huge, and they even offer a monstrous 5 scoop bowl of ice cream, which looked almost like a half gallon of ice cream, ha. This is a great alternative to all the modern ice cream shops.
The ambiance and history of this place is what sets it apart from all other ice cream shops. One side has all the seating and ice cream and the other side truly is a museum displaying all sorts of 100 year old ice cream and soda dispensers. They have a small gift shop area of wooden toys other items kids back in the day played with before technology, ha.
One of the best soda shoppes that you will ever find. Very authentic old time surroundings. Really beautiful decorated for Christmas.
But really, really poorly run. Usually half empty, and there's still a long wait for seating. Lots of employees, just poorly utilized. Slow to get food as well. Been this way for years, every time I go.
This is a wonderful place to eat. It is a historic, old-fashioned ice cream and soda fountain. They have tables, a lunch counter, and several large spaces which you can reserve for parties or other gatherings. All the food is delicious, the staff is helpful and friendly and the building is very old-school cool. Definitely worth a lunch visit.
