When I lost my Shadow, they were just as caring and loving to him in his final moments. Then I got a condolence card. I will bring any animal I have to this clinics simply because they were so kind and understanding.
Excellent staff. Very low cost compared to area options.
The following Monday, after not seeing the puppy again, the vet called to tell me my dog had an infection on her belly and needed to have an antibiotic. In addition I was told that the place in Indianapolis that they use for surgery doesn't do this surgery so I'll need to go to Athens for x-rays, a place in Indianapolis for rehab/therapy for post-op, and another place in Indianapolis for the surgery.
Save yourself the second guessing and go to a different vet. Trust is so important!
The price I was given was exceedingly high for my budget. So, I asked if there were any alternatives. Her tone was nothing shy of demeaning as she proceeded to tell me how shocked she was my puppy wasn't lame already and how this had to be done immediately. This was frustrating and concerning as this is the only vet my dog has ever seen and this 'major issue' went undiagnosed for 6 months and was only then discovered by me.
I've been coming here for at least 17 years. Over that period they have cared for the nine dogs that have shared my life. When we get a dog it is a family member and our family has been fairly stable at 4 dogs for much of that time. The doctors are caring and respectful. The staff are quite competent. They know us and our dogs. Our dogs get the best care and I would not go anywhere else.
I went in with my puppy on a Friday who evidently has the beginning of hip dysplasia, while at the office I also noticed a rash on my dog's belly and asked about it. At the end of my appointment I left with a 10 month old pup who supposedly needed double hip replacement and a rash with open wounds that would heal itself. I asked for surgery alternatives, but was told there were none.
So disappointed that this review is necessary, but my last few experiences at Athens have been awful. Dr. Kochert does not seem to care about me or my dogs and has the temperament of one who should not work with the public. When I go in her diagnoses are always worst case scenario, with no alternatives available.
Friendly, caring service from knowledgeable vets and staff. They love pets and their people!
Needless to say, I've found a new vet, who suggested we wait on the surgery until she is full grown. We are also going to try other options and not implement surgery as the first and only plausible option. We have had a few issues in the past with this same vet, and this was my last straw.
